The Assistant Branch Manager at our Wagga Wagga branch will lead a team of highly skilled trade team members whose passion and focus is on giving our builders the best possible service and the products they need to build their homes. Your leadership skills in mentoring and coaching the team will be integral to their development and success, and you will be a sales-focused leader with the ability to achieve and exceed branch sales targets.

Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will support the day-to-day running of the branch across customer service, toolbox meetings, stock management and administrative tasks, ensuring the branch is well-stocked to meet customer demand. In the absence of the Branch Manager, you will step in as the primary contact, ensuring excellent customer service and smooth daily operations. You will be given direction, coaching and mentoring to help you grow into a Branch Manager role over time.

This is a hands-on, customer-facing leadership role that suits someone with strong people skills, a sales mindset, a high safety standard and the drive to bring out the best in their team every day.

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE

  • Leading the daily operations of the branch in conjunction with the Branch Manager, including team coverage and task coordination
  • Mentoring, coaching and developing the trade team to lift performance, service and selling behaviours
  • Reviewing service measures, communicating results and driving improvements with the team
  • Stepping in as the primary contact in the Branch Manager's absence to keep the branch running smoothly
  • Managing stock integrity and accuracy, supporting cycle counts, stock takes and investigations into any inaccuracies
  • Following up on outstanding sales orders, quotes and CODs, and keeping customers informed of special-order status
  • Managing and resolving customer queries and complaints, building strong long-term relationships with our trade customers
  • Merchandising and presenting products to promote sales, including new-item placements to drive business goals
  • Monitoring sales, margin and shrinkage results with the Branch Manager and taking corrective action where required
  • Promoting a safety-first culture across the branch and ensuring all team members report hazards, near misses and incidents promptly via Donesafe
  • Living the 'Our Circle of Care' principles – See, Say, Listen, Stop – and looking out for the safety of yourself, your team, our customers and the community

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Drivers Licence (mandatory)
  • Forklift Licence (mandatory)
  • Construction Induction Care - White Card (mandatory)
  • Experience in a Trade or Warehousing leadership role with indirect leadership of 10+ staff (preferred)
  • Previous experience in retail and/or sales management (preferred)
  • Knowledge of timber, steel and/or general building materials (preferred)
  • Strong people leadership skills, with the ability to mentor, coach and develop a team
  • A sales mindset, with proven ability to set and drive towards sales, margin and service targets
  • Great organisational and planning skills, with the ability to multitask and adapt to shifting priorities and timelines
  • Confident communicator who can build rapport and trust with team members and customers
  • Strong problem-solving ability and the initiative to resolve issues on the spot
  • Solid computer skills and confidence using point-of-sale, ordering and stock management systems
  • Physically capable of manual handling tasks throughout the day (lifting up to 25kg, occasionally up to 40kg in a dual lift)
  • A team player who is energetic, self-driven, takes responsibility for their own learning and brings a growth mindset every day
