The Truss & Frame Branch Manager at our Smeaton Grange manufacturing plant has a key leadership role - steering and inspiring a diverse team of skilled individuals ranging from administrative staff and detailers through to production team members. Your primary focus is to oversee and enhance the core of our operations, our truss and frame production, ensuring it functions at peak efficiency and consistently meets customer timelines.

You will proactively manage and exceed delivery schedules, drive operational efficiency and employee engagement, and maintain transparent communication with customers, especially around any delays, to uphold our commitment to reliability and trust. Equally important, you'll be the face of Dahlsens to our customers across the region - building strong, long-term relationships that keep us their supplier of choice.

Reporting to the Regional Manager, you will lead innovative projects to integrate new technologies into production, develop, and implement strategic plans to enhance the customer experience, improve product quality, and explore new market opportunities. You'll be given the coaching and mentoring to grow the business to its full potential.

This is a leadership role for a commercially minded person with strong people skills, sharp communication and demonstrated experience running a manufacturing plant.

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE

  • Leading, coaching, mentoring and developing a high-performing team across production, detailing, yard, dispatch and administration
  • Ensuring the manufacturing plant operates at high performance across quality, service, sales, output and profit
  • Overseeing all operational aspects of the branch, including production, customer service, financial management, human resources, administration and sales
  • Developing forecasts, financial objectives and business plans with the support of Operations and Finance teams, and managing branch financial performance against them
  • Proactively managing delivery schedules and customer communication to maintain on-time, in-full performance and customer trust
  • Planning and preparing rosters to ensure adequate coverage and service levels across manufacturing shifts
  • Overseeing stock inventory, monthly reporting and annual forecasting
  • Driving continuous improvement, lean/process initiatives and the integration of new technologies into production
  • Assessing local market conditions, monitoring competitor activity and identifying current and prospective sales opportunities
  • Building strong, long-term relationships with trade customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders to position Dahlsens as the supplier of choice
  • Promoting a safety-first culture, ensuring compliance with WHS and Australian Standards, and supporting prompt reporting of hazards, near misses and incidents via Donesafe
  • Living the 'Our Circle of Care' principles – See, Say, Listen, Stop – and looking out for the safety of yourself, your team, our customers and the community

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • 5+ years' management experience running a manufacturing plant, ideally Truss & Frame (preferred)
  • Industry experience in manufacturing and engineering, with timber/building materials exposure (preferred)
  • Proven leadership of 10+ direct or indirect team members across multiple functions (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of lean / process improvement methodologies (preferred)
  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Operations, Manufacturing or a related discipline (preferred)
  • Demonstrated business acumen, with strong commercial sense and confidence managing P&L, budgets, margin and forecasting
  • Excellent leadership skills - you can inspire, motivate, coach and influence a team to perform at their best
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent negotiation, influencing and relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving ability, with the confidence to resolve issues through consultation
  • Hands-on, can-do attitude - happy to roll up your sleeves on the plant floor when the situation calls for it
  • A current Australian driver's licence (mandatory - Tools of Trade ute provided)
