The Category Manager Assistant will support our Category Manager across range management, promotional planning, sales and profit performance, supplier management and customer engagement. You will work closely with the Category Manager in the selecting, pricing and positioning of category products, and bring an analytical mindset that shape future range planning.
Reporting to the Category Manager and based at our Notting Hill Support Office, you will partner with new and existing suppliers to improve product performance and keep our market edge sharp. You will own data analysis and reporting, contribute to pricing and promotional strategies, and work with internal stakeholders on planograms and category layouts.
This is an analytical, fast-paced merchandise support role that suits someone who is naturally numbers-minded, highly organised, and confident influencing stakeholders at all levels.
RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE
- Assisting the Category Manager in selecting, pricing and positioning category products to keep our market edge sharp
- Maintaining supplier agreements and supporting strong working relationships with new and existing suppliers
- Processing purchase orders, resolving invoicing issues and ensuring timely merchandise delivery to our branches
- Maintaining stock adjustments and re-order levels to support inventory turnover and product availability
- Reviewing and reporting on category financials, sales and profit performance to inform planning decisions
- Analysing data and recommending pricing changes to maximise sales opportunities and category margins
- Maintaining accurate product information across our systems and across the merchandise team
- Assisting with broader merchandise projects, range plans and promotional planning as required
- Staying up to date on category trends and competitive market activity to inform future range planning
- Communicating new products, pricing changes and category updates to relevant teams across the business
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Tertiary qualifications in commerce, marketing or engineering (preferred)
- 2+ years' experience in a similar category, buying or merchandise role (preferred)
- Strong numerical and data aptitude
- Experience buying product for a multi-site business
- Knowledge of developing range plans
- Experience in negotiation and influencing stakeholders
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Extensive computer skills, including advanced Microsoft Excel and Word
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands and timelines
- A team player who is energetic, self-driven, takes initiative and contributes to team outcomes
