As a Yard Person at Dahlsens Mitre 10 Myrtleford, you will play a hands-on role in keeping our timber yard running smoothly and making our customers happy. Serving a broad customer base – from local builders and tradies through to weekend DIYers – you will help every customer safely enter, load and leave the yard with what they need.

Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will operate forklifts to load and unload timber packs, work in tandem with the wider Myrtleford team to pick and pack orders, deliver goods when required and maintain a clean, hazard-free yard. This role includes some weekend work as part of a rotating roster to support our busiest retail days.

This is a perfect role for someone who enjoys working outdoors, thrives on friendly retail customer service, and brings a proactive, can-do attitude every day.

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE

• Forklift operation, including loading and unloading of trucks and customer vehicles
• Movement of stock and timber throughout the yard
• Pulling and preparation of customer orders, plus general stock management
• Assisting customers with questions across the yard and at the counter, including retail DIYers, tradies and builders
• Processing paperwork in accordance with Dahlsens processes and procedures
• Manual handling of timber, plasterboard and other building materials (lifting up to 25kg, occasionally up to 40kg in a dual lift)
• Keeping the yard, warehouse and sheds neat, tidy and hazard-free at all times
• Working a rotating weekend roster to support our busiest retail trading days
• Delivering goods to customers on time when required, adhering to all road and traffic regulations
• Reporting hazards and near misses immediately via the hazard booklet
• Living the 'Our Circle of Care' principles – See, Say, Listen, Stop – and looking out for the safety of yourself, your team, our customers and the community

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

• Forklift Licence (mandatory)
• Previous experience in a warehouse, storage yard or retail hardware environment (preferred)
• Product experience with timber and building materials (preferred)
• Vehicle licence (mandatory)
• Strong customer service ethic and a friendly, helpful approach with retail and trade customers
• Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to work as part of a team
• Strong attention to detail, accurate order picking and safe use of equipment
• Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure
• Physically capable of bending, lifting, balancing, kneeling, crouching and carrying – including lifting up to 25kg (and up to 40kg in a dual lift) throughout the day
• Available to work a rotating roster that includes some weekend shifts
• A reliable team player who is energetic, self-driven and takes initiative to solve problems
