As a Yard Person at our Laverton Branch , you will play a hands-on role in keeping our yard running smoothly and supporting our internal production team. From unloading and organising timber to rotating stock, preparing loads and staging materials for production, you will be involved in every step of the process to ensure accuracy, safety, and efficiency.
Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will operate forklifts, maintain a clean and hazard-free yard, and work closely with our teams. This is an internal-focused yard role where stock rotation, timely staging of materials, and consistent housekeeping keep.

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE
- Forklift operation, including loading and unloading of trucks and staging materials for the production line
- Movement and stock rotation of timber and prefabricated components throughout the yard
- Pulling and preparing outbound loads of prefabricated wall frames and roof trusses for dispatch
- Supporting the internal production team by staging timber and materials to keep production uninterrupted
- Assisting with general administration and internal team queries when needed
- Processing paperwork in accordance with Dahlsens processes and procedures
- Manual handling of timber, plasterboard and other building materials (lifting up to 25kg, occasionally up to 40kg in a dual lift)
- Keeping the yard, warehouse and sheds neat, tidy and hazard-free at all times
- Occasionally delivering goods to customers when required, adhering to all road and traffic regulations
- Reporting hazards, near misses and incidents promptly via Donesafe
- Living the 'Our Circle of Care' principles – See, Say, Listen, Stop – and looking out for the safety of yourself, your team, our customers and the community
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Current Forklift Licence (LF) (mandatory)
- Previous experience in a warehouse, yard or manufacturing environment (preferred)
- Product experience with timber and building materials (preferred)
- Vehicle licence (preferred)
- Strong customer service ethic and a friendly, helpful approach with internal and external stakeholders
- Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to work as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail, accurate order picking and safe use of equipment
- Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure
- Physically capable of bending, lifting, balancing, kneeling, crouching and carrying – including lifting up to 25kg (and up to 40kg in a dual lift) throughout the day
- A reliable team player who is energetic, self-driven and takes initiative to solve problems
